Chief Whitecap (1819 to 1889) is one of the two founders of the City of Saskatoon. His portrait was commissioned by the Whitecap Dakota Government and composed from a careful study of his features and clothing in three black-and-white photographs from the 1800\u2018s. Chief Bear and Council, and Dakota Elders, met with Cheryl guiding the portrait with their advice. Incidentally, just as the portrait was being finished, after 138 years, Chief Whitecap\u2019s pipe was rightfully returned to Whitecap Dakota First Nation by the Royal Canadian Military Institute. This incredibly significant and personal possession was also returned to its owner\u2019s hands within the painting.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
